Write with Us in the south of Spain in fall 2025!
Join me and my colleague and extraordinary water colorist Helena Hill (Oct. 4-10, 2025) for a week of writing, critiquing, painting, and exploration at beautiful Casa Ana in the south of Spain, nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada and an hour from the Andalusian city of Granada. We’ll spend most mornings writing individually, then play with water coloring in the afternoons. Bring your memoir, novel, or nonfiction work of any kind. We’ll generate new work and also focus on your work in progress. There will also be plenty of time to explore the village of Ferreirola, where Casa Ana is located, and we’ll hike the beautiful surrounding Sierra Nevada and explore Granada with a local guide. Casa Ana is a warm and inviting villa with private en suite rooms, enticing meals, and every amenity you can imagine. Lodging, instruction, meals and transportation to and from Granada are included in the cost. The only additional expense you are responsible for is your travel to and from Spain. Limited to ten students.

We also return to Tuscany for painting and Writing in 2026
(Sept. 27-Oct. 3, 2026)
If you are interested in either trip, send me your email address and I’ll put you on our retreat mailing list.
Here are some Photos from Our Spring 2019 Tuscan retreat
at Casa Fiori, Lucca, Italy
Helena and I took eleven women to a 400-year-old villa outside the charming town of Lucca in 2019. This beautiful setting was our home for ten days—we found inspiration in the gardens, olive groves, vineyards, rustic barns, old mills, and more.
Some of the highlights of our time together included: a visit to the town of Lucca for the best cappuccino in Italy, cultural tour, and a Puccini concert in a Romanesque church built over Roman ruins; a day trip to Portovenere near Cinque Terre, one of the small villages clinging to steep cliffs above the Mediterranean; a visit to an artist’s refurbished old barn where we created our own souvenir plates; making homemade limoncello; an excursion to the medieval town of San Gimignano; a cooking class with the estate’s chef; and plenty of time for painting, writing, hiking or strolling around the gardens, olive groves, and vineyards, lounging in hammocks, and absorbing the quiet and spectacular views.
